Running Back: Travis Etienne

It’s the name no one expected coming into August.

If you asked any Clemson football fan who the “star of fall camp” would be back in June or July, they would have named Tavien Feaster, C.J. Fuller, or even Adam Choice.

No one would have even muttered Travis Etienne without being laughed out of the building.

But he has surprised coaches and fans alike. Etienne has come into preseason camp and, basically, forced the coaches’ hand.

He’s going to get valuable snaps on game day and will have his chance to stamp his name at the running back position.

Don’t read too much into it, but at practice Tuesday, Feaster worked with the first team and then Etienne was the second running back off the bench.

I still believe all three veterans (Feaster, Fuller, and Choice) are ahead of Etienne on the depth chart. I believe the starting position is between Feaster and Fuller, but I wouldn’t be surprised for Travis Etienne to, at the very least, make waves in the two-deep before the season is over.

I’m still excited about what Tavien Feaster will give the Tigers as a home run threat in the backfield this season, but Travis Etienne is pushing every single running back to get better.

He’s not going to throw in the towel just because he’s a true freshman and, because of his performance, he has earned the “star” at the running back position for fall camp.
