Clemson Football 2017: Stars of the Tigers’ Fall Camp
Wide Receiver: Amari Rodgers
It’s amazing we can go from talking about a position like tight end that has paper thin depth and then talk about Clemson football’s wide receiver corp.
This is the deepest group in the country.
There are five-stars all over the field and the talent level is through the roof. There are so many options to choose as “Fall Camp Stars,” it’d be much easier to just name the whole group like the defensive line, but I’m not going to do that.
Out of all the wide receivers, the one who the coaches raved about the most was freshman Amari Rodgers.
It’s not necessarily that they expect him to be the best wide receiver for them in 2017 as the Tigers have names like Deon Cain, Hunter Renfrow, Ray-Ray McCloud, Cornell Powell, Diondre Overton, and even Tee Higgins, who are probably ahead of him on the depth chart.
But it’s what he was able to do.
He reminds me of Artavis Scott, but with the ability to take the ball to the house.
He has great hands and speed. Because of how he impressed the coaching staff this fall camp, he has earned the “star” for the wide receiver group during the preseason.
That may not mean anything.
We may not even see him that often, but I do think that Rodgers has made an impact with the coaches and the media alike and it’s going to be hard to keep him off the field even with the plethora of names that are supposedly ahead of him.
