Clemson Football 2017: Stars of the Tigers’ Fall Camp
Quarterback: Kelly Bryant
Who else?
Kelly Bryant came out and, plain and simple, won the starting job at quarterback for Clemson football.
According to coaches, he has been the most consistent and has taken leadership over the offense. The players on the offense are looking up to him and he has embraced that role.
Bryant entered fall camp with a different, almost renewed, swagger. That has made the difference.
His confidence is great and he looks like a Collegiate quarterback.
His 222 pound-frame is going to be a huge asset in the run-game and his arm has gotten better throughout the summer.
Bryant has been “the guy” throughout fall camp. Here’s what Swinney had to say about Bryant in the press release from ClemsonTigers.com:
"“Kelly Bryant is the starter,” said Swinney. “He has earned it and I am proud of him. It has been a great competition, but this part is over. Zerrick Cooper is the number-two quarterback, but Hunter Johnson is right there. We hope to get all three quarterbacks experience in the first part of the season.”"
During the two scrimmages, Bryant 10-of-17 for 186 yards and a touchdown and then 14-of-20 for 177 yards and a touchdown. All of this came against the first-team defense for Clemson football.
Now the question is this: Can he be “the guy” when the games start?
That remains to be seen, but as far as the preseason is concerned, Kelly Bryant is the star at quarterback.
