An attack in Barcelona today was a little too close for comfort for the Clemson mens basketball team.

The team has been on a Spanish tour since last week and survived a thrilling 82-80 game to get a win over the Mataro All-Stars on Tuesday, but today they are thankful for more than a win.

Police have confirmed that there has been a terrorist attack in Barcelona, Spain via Fox News

"The terrorists alleged to have plowed a van into a crowd of pedestrians in a popular tourist area — resulting in at least 13 deaths — were holed up in a Barcelona restaurant Thursday as images of the carnage, showing bodies lying crumpled and bleeding in the street, flooded forth from the Spanish city."

The attack occurred outside of the team’s hotel, but the coaches and players are reported to be safe. Everyone in the immediate area is on lockdown until the attackers are captured.

The team was scheduled to finish play tonight against the Barcelona All-Stars before traveling back home on Friday. They are 3-0. Sophomore Scott Spencer will remember what happened today.

UPDATE: Clemson basketball has made it back to the United States of America. The Tigers are now in transit back to Clemson. We are glad to hear that everyone is safe and that the team will soon be back at home.

Expectations for Clemson’s upcoming season are about as ranged as they come. Some have the Tigers contending for an NCAA Tournament bid while others have them taking a step back from last season, in which they were eliminated in the NIT Tournament.
