10 Reasons Clemson Football Will Make the CFB Playoff in 2017
5. The quarterback situation isn’t as bad as people think
Speaking of unknowns, how about that quarterback position?
Clemson football will be looking to replace Deshaun Watson, a two-time Heisman finalist and National Championship MVP. Watson was the undisputed leader off of last year’s College Football Playoff National Championship team and is, in my opinion, the greatest player to play in a Clemson football uniform.
But, the QB situation in 2017 isn’t quite as bad as people are making it out to be.
If you listen to the naysayers out there, they will tell you that Clemson is going to drop off the face of the planet because the Tigers don’t have Deshaun Watson. That’s just untrue.
Clemson won 10 games in 2014 with Cole Stoudt at quarterback for half of the time. The Tigers are way more talented here in 2017 than they were in 2014. That means if you get any kind of production from the QB position and they refrain from turning the ball over, you are going to have a chance to win every single game.
Kelly Bryant is more than capable of that.
I believe that Zerrick Cooper and Hunter Johnson are both capable of that, as well.
In the end, Tiger fans also have to remember that none of these guys are scrubs. They were all four and five-star recruits coming out of high school. They would be the clear starter at a bunch schools in the Power-Five this season, but they chose to come to Clemson.
Will the quarterback in 2017 be Deshaun Watson? No, but they certainly won’t be a scrub either.
