The Clemson football team held its’ first stadium scrimmage of fall camp for 2017. Here are some news and notes coming out of the day.

The Clemson football team scrimmaged in Death Valley for the first time on Saturday

Here are some of the news and notes coming out of the day. As of right now, there are no posted stats from the scrimmage.

  • Dabo Swinney says the offense was inconsistent

"“We had some big plays, and some nice runs, Swinney said via The State.com. But we need more consistency. We had three penalties on the receivers and those are things that will get you beat. Overall, a good solid day and we’re excited to go back and watch the tape.”"

The offense performed well, according to what we’ve heard, near the goal line and they made some nice plays, but couldn’t get a consistent rhythm going.

  • Tee Higgins made a nice TD catch thrown by Chase Brice
  • Hunter Johnson had a TD pass
  • Diondre Overton turned the coaches’ heads a couple of times
  • Travis Etienne had one of the nicest runs of the day down near the goal line

It seems as if Kelly Bryant and Zerrick Cooper are the two leaders in the clubhouse at quarterback as of right now, although that can change in a heartbeat.

  • Kelly Bryant is the most consistent QB

Clemson football quarterback Kelly Bryant has taken the reins of the offense. It would seem that he is in complete control of the starting position at this point, but according to Swinney, Bryant had two interceptions that weren’t necessarily his fault.

He made the right decisions, according to Dabo, but had a couple of bad breaks. That worries me a bit, but Bryant was going against the first-team defense the entire time and that is only going to make him better.

On a positive note, one reason that the offense did well in the goal line situations was because of Bryant’s ability to run the ball. The offensive line is very good and it seems that the running backs are coming along as well.

  • Iron sharpens Iron

Everyone knows the old Proverb “iron sharpens iron.” This is true with Clemson football.
The best defense that the Tiger offense will face is right in front of them every single day of practice.

That’s going to make the offense better, as a result, and the defense will continue to improve as well.

The defense was, for the most part, dominant today, but I believe that will make the offense perform better next time out and continue to make the competition better, as a result.

  • Injury Updates

DE Clelin Ferrell was cleared to go in the scrimmage and is back to full-strength. LT Mitch Hyatt, DB Marcus Edmond, and TE Shadell Bell were out with minor injuries.

Logan Rudolph should be back at practice Monday, according to Swinney via Robert MacRae of The Clemson Insider.
