One of the best places to eat before watching the Clemson Tigers play is at the Smokin’ Pig. Sports Illustrated certainly thinks so.

Sports Illustrated recently released its’ rankings for the best meals in College Towns across the nation and, by no surprise, Clemson’s Smokin’ Pig made the list.

One of the very best places to eat before watching the Clemson Tigers play is at the Smokin’ Pig. Plenty of Tiger fans make their way to the restaurant before games each and every Saturday and it doesn’t just stop after football season.

Sports Illustrated writer Andy Staples ranked “The Smokin’ Pig’s sampler” as the No. 7 best dish in all of America in his rankings.

"You expect great pulled pork in South Carolina. You do not expect excellent brisket. But they do both well at The Smokin’ Pig. So when driving between Anderson and Clemson (on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday), stop in and get a plate loaded with the pork, brisket and ribs. Get the jalapeno cheese grits and Brunswick stew on the side. Then find a friend to wheel you out of the place."

When going to the Smokin’ Pig, I prefer the either the BBQ chicken or BBQ pork plate with a delicious side of sweet potatoes, cole slaw, or fries.

They also have great BBQ sandwiches and ribs.

Every fan of the Clemson Tigers should go to the Smokin’ Pig at least once and I promise, once you go once, you’ll have to go back.

You’ll be sure to get your belly full and it will be a great experience for the whole family.

In case you’re wondering, ranked ahead of the Smokin’ Pig sampler, according to Staples, was Satchel’s pizza in Gainesville (UF), Lasalle Kitchen and Tavern in South Bend (ND), Skylight Inn in Ayden, NC (ECU), Fargo’s in Bryan, Texas (TAMU), Leadbelly in Lincoln, Nebraska (NEB), and Archibald’s in Tuscaloosa (Ala).
