Clemson football co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott was impressed with what he saw out of his offense, especially the two freshman wideouts.
Clemson football co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott has had some good receivers come through his program over the past few seasons.
Even though Elliott coaches the running backs, he was taken back by how the two freshman wide receivers, Amari Rodgers and Tee Higgins, have performed through the first few days of practice.
Here is what Elliott had to say about both Rodgers and Higgins after practice on Saturday, according to Nikki Hood of the Tigernet.
"“I thought Amari Rodgers really caught my attention. I think everybody knows what Tee Higgins is. Tee is going to be an unbelievable player. You saw him make some catches. He’s a combination of size. His weight surprised me from the weigh-in because I didn’t realize he was that big, he’s just really smooth. Amari was probably the one that caught my attention the most. He looked very natural and smooth. He got a lot of reps today.”"
Tee Higgins is a complete beast, in my estimation. He is the perfect blend of size and athleticism. Before he leaves Clemson, he is going to set a lot of records and I believe that Higgins is the best freshman wide receiver to come into Tiger Town since Sammy Watkins.
What surprises me, though, is the praise that Amari Rodgers is getting.
It’s not surprising that Rodgers is getting praise as he is an extremely talented player, but it seems as if he is already competing for playing time, perhaps even a spot on the two-deep depth chart.
Next: Travis Etienne Jr. already in rare company?
It will certainly be something to watch over the next few weeks as we progress to the beginning of the season, but I believe you will see both Amari Rodgers and Tee Higgins in bunches this year.
What do you think, Clemson football fans? Do you believe that both Rodgers and Higgins have a chance to not only earn some playing time, but compete for valuable reps? Comment below with what you think about the wide receiver situation.
