Saturday, September 30th: @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech is a good team and is on the rise. Coach Justin Fuente has done an excellent job bringing the Hokies back to national prominence and I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Virginia Tech as a top-25 team before the season is over.

The problem, however, is that the Hokies have lost three key players from last year’s 10-4 team including quarterback Jerod Evans, receiver Isaiah Ford, and tight end Bucky Hodges.

It’s just going to be too hard for them to replace all of that talent.

I still believe that going into Blacksburg on what could be a night game is dangerous. Clemson’s starting quarterback will have only had one road experience under his belt to this point and the Tigers very well may have a slower start than what they’d like.

Defensively, Virginia Tech has a ton of experience returning at linebacker and in the secondary. Andrew Motuapuaka and Tremaine Edmunds are both guys to look out for on that Hokie defense. This game may very well end up being a defensive slug fest.

Clemson has the talent to put up some points, but I’d just expect that the offense still may not be in full gear at this point and this could be one of those games that the Tigers will need to rely on the defense to get the job done.

I’d expect a final score of something along the lines of 21-10 or 17-7. Maybe I’m wrong and the Tigers score a lot more points and run away with this one, but that’s what makes spreads so fun. If you’re confident, they you take the over.

Spread: Clemson -10.5
