Saturday, September 4th: vs. Kent State Golden Flashes

The current spread of this game is Clemson football -38.5. That’s a lot of points. I know the Tigers will be Kent State fairly easily, but almost 40 points is a lot when you are breaking out an offense with a lot of unknowns at skill positions.

If you had to ask me, I’d probably put right around a 31-36 spread on this game. Clemson probably wins the game something like 42-7 or 49-10, which is right on what the spread would be.

I think 38.5 is definitely doable, especially against a team like Kent State, but I don’t expect the Tigers to put up 60 in the first game of the season.

Keep in mind that offenses are almost always slow out of the gate. Even the Clemson football offense from 2016 didn’t hit its’ stride until midway through the season. People seem to forget that.

If I had to take this spread, I would still go with Clemson.

I do believe that this Tiger team will be focused and ready to go. They feel like they have something to prove and because you have a lot of new starters, they will all be ready to go.

Clemson wins this game and, most likely, beats the spread on its’ way to set up a show down with the Auburn Tigers.

Spread: Clemson -34.5
