Clemson Football: Have the Tigers missed the boat on a RB prospect in 2018?
The Rubbing The Rock Podcast is dedicated to all things Clemson. In episode 2, host Anthony Messenger discusses how waiting on Zamir White’s decision negatively effected Clemson’s 2018 recruiting class.
While Clemson’s 2018 recruiting class is already among the best in program history, it is lacking a running back commit. The Tigers held off on offering a slew of running backs to focus their efforts on Zamir White.
Beginning of the show: Lasamuel Davis recently announced that he would be transferring from Clemson, leaving the Tigers with little depth at defensive end. I discuss why I believe Davis decided to transfer and how defensive coordinator Brent Venables will adjust.
Five minute mark:
- Which members of Clemson’s 2017 recruiting class will have an impact as true freshman?
- Discussing the misconception about taking a redshirt year.
- Defensive side of the ball, Logan Rudolph and Baylon Spector.
- Offensive side of the ball, Hunter Johnson, Tee Higgins and Amari Rogers.
Ten minute mark: I discuss how waiting on five-star running back Zamir White put Clemson behind the eight ball in the recruitment of fellow running back prospects. The Tigers recently offered, Master Teague III (committed to Ohio State) and Lyn-J Dixon (committed to Tennessee).
I give the Tigers no shot at flipping Master Teague III due to Ohio State’s running back friendly scheme. Lyn-J Dixon on the other hand, should be much easier to lure to Death Valley.
End of the show: Clemson commits, Trevor Lawrence, Kyler McMichael and Xavier Thomas are participating in Nike’s Opening Finals in Beaverton Oregon. Lawrence has been a consistent force in 7 on 7 pool play in an attempt to solidify himself as the No. 1 overall prospect in the country. Thomas has been a man amongst boys in one-on-one’s. On one rep he made an example out of an opposing offensive lineman. McMichael has been a pleasant surprise in coverage. I wasn’t sure how he would fare against some of the country’s best wide receivers, but, his length and explosiveness have been on full display.
