Clemson Football Recruiting: Joseph Charleston offer breakdown
The Clemson Tigers coaching staff has been busy on the recruiting trail since the start of the summer camp circuit. Today I will be breaking down the offer of 2019 safety, Joseph Charleston.

After recently camping at Clemson, Joseph Charleston walked away with a scholarship offer from the Tigers. The state of Georgia has been kind to Clemson under Dabo Swinney. It appears that the Tigers are looking to reap the benefits of their strong Georgia pipeline in the 2019 recruiting class.
Strengths:
At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Charleston reminds me of former LSU great, Eric Reid, because of his balanced skill set. Charleston has the instincts and speed to cover the entire field, as well as the size to pummel ball carriers in run support.
- Length
- Closing speed
- Physicality
Weaknesses:
Charleston hesitates at times when breaking on the ball. He simply needs to trust his eyes more in coverage.
- Trusting his eyes
Outlook:
Charleston is going to be a special prospect by the time he is a senior. Clemson and nearly every other program in the country will be vying for his services and it’s not hard to see why. With his size, ball skills and willingness to tackle, Charleston has the tools to become one of the most dominant safeties in the country. While Clemson is set at safety for the foreseeable future, Charleston would be a huge steal for the Tigers out of the Peach state.
It is hard to project what the Tigers depth chart would look like at safety going into the 2019 season, however, there is little doubt in my mind that Charleston will push for playing time at any program as a true freshman.
