Clemson Football Recruiting: Darnell Jefferies breakdown
In the months leading up to National Signing Day I am going to be taking a look at each of the members of Clemson’s 2018 recruiting class as it continues to grow. Today’s edition features defensive tackle commit Darnell Jefferies.

Jefferies’ commitment to Clemson was far from unexpected. Earlier in the spring, I wrote a piece on why he would eventually end up with the Tigers. With Jefferies in the fold, Clemson’s 2018 recruiting class is absolutely loaded along the defensive line.
Strengths:
Jefferies is one of the best bull rushers in all of high school football. While he may not be particularly explosive when rushing the passer, his quickness off of the L.O.S. makes him a nuisance against the run.
- Brute strength
- Use of hands
- Toughness
Weaknesses:
Jefferies doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses, he simply needs to add to his arsenal of pass rushing moves. Defensive line coach, Todd Bates will surely provide Jefferies with a wider variety of moves.
- Pass rushing moves
Outlook:
Jefferies is next in the line of great Clemson defensive lineman. He will have time to sit an develop behind players such as Dexter Lawrence, Nyles Pinckney and Albert Huggins. Due to his stature and playing style, Jefferies will likely play 3-tech for the Tigers. His quickness and punch will give opposing offensive lineman fits.
Fellow 2018 commit, Josh Belk complements Jefferies very well. At 6-foot-2, 283 pounds, Belk will likely develop into a force at nose tackle for the Tigers. Throw in Xavier Thomas and Justin Mascoll and Clemson’s defensive line will be loaded once again.
