In the months leading up to National Signing Day I am going to be taking a look at each of the members of Clemson’s 2018  recruiting class as it continues to grow. Today’s edition features defensive tackle commit Josh Belk.

Strengths:

  • Powerful. Belk utilizes a dominant bull rush.
  • Athleticism, Belk is also the kicker on his high school team and he is usually one of the first people to the ball. Certainly impressive for a 285 pound man.
  • Toughness. Belk plays with a mean streak routinely finishing plays.
  • Motor. As I previously stated Belk takes no plays off, competing until the whistle is blown.

Weakness:

  • Due to Belk’s natural ability he rarely has to use anything other than a bull rush. Belk will not be able to simply shrug off college offensive lineman, who are much more fundamentally sound. Working on a variety of moves is something Belk must dedicate time to before entering college.

Outlook:

Josh Belk is more than a year away from joining the Clemson Tigers football program. That being said, Belk is yet another weapon Clemson will add to their arsenal of defensive lineman. Due to the depth that Clemson will already have in place along the defensive line, Belk will likely redshirt as a freshman.

Belk is similar to Carlos Watkins in build and style of play. Both are large interior defensive lineman with explosive first steps. While neither are top end fast, they have good short area quickness. Belk will be part of an absurdly deep defensive line rotation at Clemson. Brent Venables will surely be licking his chops when analyzing the Tigers roster in 2018 and beyond.
