Strengths:

  • Has great size at 6’6, 196 pounds which will allow him to see over taller offensive and defensive lineman. Scanning the field won’t be an issue.
  • Athleticism. Not blazing fast, however he is athletic enough to get out of trouble should the pocket collapse. Will allow Clemson to move the pocket and throwing points.
  • Elite arm talent. Lawrence can make all of the throws, he has the power to push the ball vertically and the touch to fit it over defenders.
  • Lawrence has the ability to simply make throws. He does not need to have his feet set or shoulders square, he can make impressive throws from awkward angles.

Weaknesses:

I don’t see many weaknesses in Trevor Lawrence’s game other than the fact that he tends to fade away from his target once he releases the ball. In high school Lawrence will complete those balls, because he has the shear arm strength to do so, but, he will have to work on that at the college level.

Outlook:

Clemson will have to wait for Trevor Lawrence as he is a rising senior in high school. The Tigers quarterback situation is going to be tricky in the 2018 season. Clemson will have five quarterbacks on the roster by the time Lawrence steps on campus, including 2017 signee’s Hunter Johnson and Chase Brice. Regardless of who is the starter in 2018, I expect there to be at least one transfer, most likely two.

Lawrence has all of the talent in the world, it’s just a matter of him digesting the playbook. By the time the 2018 season rolls around, the Clemson Tigers offense will have an elite supporting cast including the likes of Tee Higgins and Tavien Feaster.
