2018 defensive end prospect Justin Mascoll commits to Clemson Tigers
The Clemson Tigers just landed one of the premier defensive end prospects in the country in four-star, Justin Mascoll. 247sports has Mascoll rated as the 3rd defensive end prospect in the nation and the 86th overall prospect in the country in the class of 2018. Mascoll’s decision gives the Tigers six commitments for the class of 2018, currently ranked as the fifth best recruiting class in the country according to 247sports recruiting rankings.
Mascoll’s decision is by no means a surprise as the Clemson Tigers were believed to be the leader in his recruitment for some time. Regardless of the nature of his commitment, Mascoll gives Clemson a dominating presence off of the edge.
At 6’5, 235 lbs Mascoll displays the athleticism of an outside linebacker, but, the power necessary to set the edge against the run. On film Mascoll routinely runs down ball carriers from behind, which is a testament to his motor. Mascoll reminds me of current Clemson defensive end, Clelin Ferrell. Both Ferrell and Mascoll are long limbed and explosive off of the edge.
Mascoll gives Clemson yet another impact player from the state of Georgia. From Vic Beasley to Deshaun Watson, the Tigers have consistently signed some of the best that the peach state has to offer.
