The Clemson Basketball program is set to face-off against the Duke Blue Devils today at 2:00 pm. A win over Duke could potentially get Clemson back on the bubble for the NCAA tournament. Clemson comes into their match-up with the Blue Devils on a three game winning streak.

Prior to this winning streak however, it appeared that the Tigers were doomed to yet another disappointing season under Brad Brownell. With the Tigers NCAA hopes on the line, it’s only natural that we ask if this win will save Brad Brownell’s job.

In my opinion, it shouldn’t.

Brad Brownell is a good coach and a man of strong character, not once under Brownell has the Clemson Basketball program endured any behavioral problems from any players. That being said, keeping Brad Brownell simply because he gets a win over Duke is foolish. It would only be delaying the inevitable.

In all fairness, Athletic Director Dan Radakovich has made no statements on the status of Brownell’s job. Due to Radakovich’s silence, I believe that there is a good chance Brownell is retained should Clemson upset Duke this afternoon. If the Tigers can make a deep run in the ACC tournament and make the NCAA tournament, I think Brownell’s job is safe and sound.
