J.C. Chalk (TE) Argyle, Texas:
J.C. Chalk was one of the most highly sought after tight-end’s in the country as a senior, holding offers from the likes of Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma. Clemson was able to win that battle which speaks to the recruiting prowess of the Tigers from a National standpoint.
247sports had Chalk ranked as the 22nd tight-end prospect in the country and the 529th overall player in the country.
Best Attributes:
J.C. Chalk is the definition of a hybrid tight-end. In high school Chalk had the speed and explosiveness to carry the football out of the backfield. Chalk displayed that same agility and athleticism catching the football down the field. For a tight-end Chalk has accessional acceleration.
The Clemson football program has had a strong tradition at tight-end under Dabo Swinney with the likes of Dwayne Allen and most recently Jordan Leggett. J.C. Chalk has all of the tools to carry on that strong tradition.
Expectations:
J.C. Chalk is in prime position to gain valuable playing time next fall. The Tigers are losing Jordan Leggett and there is no clear cut replacement as of right now. Even if Chalk is not an outright starter, Clemson has a few multiple tight-end sets, so he will still get on the field. I expect Chalk’s athleticism and sure hands to help him see the field as a redshirt freshman.
