9. Nick Schuessler has improved, but Kelly Bryant isn’t as bad as his stats look

Nick Schuessler completed several impressive passes into the wind during the spring game and had a great afternoon. He finished the day completing 14 of 21 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. He actually showed some elusive ability as well during the day.

So why not just give him the backup job? I mean, Kelly Bryant did throw two interceptions.

If you watch the game, you will notice that even though Schuessler had the better day, there are things Kelly Bryant can do that Nick just can’t.

For instance, Bryant just has more arm strength than Nick Schuessler.

Also, in a spring game, you take away Kelly Bryant’s best talent: The ability to run the football.

Obviously, there is some stuff to be fixed with Kelly Bryant because you simply cannot afford to give up the football, but I don’t think the quarterback race is decided either way. Both men have positives and both have negatives.

It will be interesting to see who works harder in the summer because that may be the guy that ends up winning the second-string job in the fall.
