Deon Cain Update

I would imagine we get an update on Deon Cain when Head Coach Dabo Swinney talks to the media on Monday. Cain, in my opinion, is one of the top receivers on this team and gives the Tigers another dimension when he is on the field.

He has great athleticism and was really coming into a zone before he was sent home for violations of the team’s drug policy at the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma. Cain was forced to watch Clemson football beat Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl and watched his Tigers lose a heart-breaker against Alabama in the National Championship game.

What I am interested to see is what kind of punishment- if any- is given out to Deon Cain for the spring part of the schedule. We know that he is enrolled in classes and, by most accounts, plans to continue his football career at Clemson.

The main question is what will his availability be for spring practice. Will he be allowed to practice? Will he be able to play in the spring game? Has he gotten back into the good graces with the coaches? These questions should be answered Monday.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Cain in the spring because I believe he could take over a starting spot heading into the summer if he is allowed to practice. If he is held out, he very well could find himself buried on the depth chart when fall camp arrives, but that still doesn’t mean he couldn’t work his way back up before the start of the season.
