Wide Receiver
DeAndre Hopkins
The second wide receiver spot begins with DeAndre ‘Nuk’ Hopkins. He has gone on to be extremely successful with the Houston Texans. Hopkins was, in my opinion, the most reliable wide receiver for quarterback Tajh Boyd to throw to and proved just how valuable he was to the Tigers’ offense when he made the infamous “4th and 16” catch to keep Clemson’s chances of beating LSU in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl alive.
DeAndre Hopkins finished his Clemson football career with 206 receptions in just three years for 3,020 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was taken in the first round by the Texans and has proven to be an extremely talented route-runner and pass-catcher.
Martavis Bryant/Rod Gardner
The last spot at wide receiver is split between Martavis Bryant and Rod Gardner. Both of these wide-outs were great deep-ball threats in their time at Clemson.
As a matter of fact, Martavis Bryant was known as the deep-ball threat. Bryant, in almost all of his catches, was just told to go up and get it. He would get long 50-yard passes and would also go one-on-one in the end zone on a jump ball for the Tigers. Rod Gardner is known for “The Catch Part II,” where he made a catch against rival South Carolina that set up the Tigers beating the Gamecocks.
Both of these guys were great down-the-field threats and were able to lead the Tigers during their time as a Clemson football player.
