8. Mike Eppley

Mike Eppley took over the Clemson football team in 1983 following the departure of National Championship winning quarterback Homer Jordan. The Tigers had actually been placed on probation that season were ineligible to win the ACC, but that did not stop Eppley.

Mike Eppley led the Tigers to a 9-1-1 season and an undefeated conference record. The Tigers beat a top-10 North Carolina team, which was a sweet victory for the Clemson fans and alumni, who made the sign “King of the Heel.”

Eppley finished his Clemson football career with 3,354 yards and 28 touchdowns to 26 interceptions. Unfortunately, the penalties were too much to overcome in 1984 and the Tigers fell back to 7-4 record, but Eppley led the ACC in total touchdowns.

Overall, Mike Eppley continued to compete and play hard even in the face of adversity, which is an admirable quality to have in your offensive leader.
