5. Goodbye, Coach Holtz (November 20, 2004)
Everyone who has been around the Clemson football program for the past 15 years or so remembers Lou Holtz. How can you forget him? Well, do you remember Coach Holtz’s last game as the head coach of South Carolina? I remember it like it was yesterday.
The Gamecocks came into Death Valley pumped up and ready to show Coach Holtz just how classless they could be. They met Clemson when they tried to run down the hill and the entire game was a bit chippy. What happened next, however, was an embarrassment to the rivalry itself and was sad that it came to this.
Unfortunately, both teams decided to have a game-interrupting brawl that ended with several injuries and a lot of suspensions. Clemson and South Carolina each missed out on Bowl season due to the fight and a few players were suspended for games the following season.
Clemson ended up winning the game by a score of 29-7, but this game will still go down as one of the most memorable of all-time in my opinion.
