Clemson Football’s Dynamic Duo – Mike Williams and Artavis Scott

As noted before, Mike Williams and Artavis Scott carried the Tigers’ receiving corp last year. Barring injury or some other unforeseen development, it’s very unlikely that these two will not retain their spots atop the Clemson football depth chart in 2015.

It’s not only because of their statistical productivity from a year ago, either. They also complement each other on the field.

While Williams provides Clemson with a big-play threat down the field, Scott thrived on a steady diet of screens and short passes.

Williams did his best work before the ball reached him, burning corners and creating space for himself. Scott, on the other hand, was a terror once he had the ball, using his fearsome combination of speed and strength to escape or barrel through defenders.

That is part of the reason Williams and Scott were both able to enjoy tremendous individual success, even in a season when Clemson’s quarterback play was often disappointing.

Williams led the Tigers in receiving yards, with 1,030 and six touchdowns on 56 receptions. Scott finished second, with 965 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on his team-leading 76 receptions.

And yet, I get the feeling that both are only beginning to show what they are truly capable of.

If Deshaun Watson is able to stay healthy for the entire 2015 season, these two could put up some absurd numbers and, more importantly, lead Clemson to a College Football Playoff bid.
