The Redshirt Candidate – Shadell Bell

Three true freshmen will join Clemson’s corp of wide receivers in 2015 but only one looks like a redshirt candidate—Shadell Bell.

Although Bell has some promise, there is simply too much talent ahead of him this year. Dabo Swinney will likely decide to preserve his eligibility with a redshirt, so he can develop this season and become a contributor in a year or two.

Clemson isn’t likely to be short on talent at receiver any time soon, of course, but there is the potential for Mike Williams to declare for the NFL Draft after next season. Artavis Scott could follow a year later, as well.

However, the 2016 Clemson football recruiting class already features two four-star receivers–Tavares Chase and Cornell Powell. Bell will have plenty of competition for playing time throughout his career, but the Tigers’ coaches wouldn’t have offered him if they didn’t think he could eventually contribute. Bell will definitely be one to watch over the next few years.
