Where would Clemson have gone without Artavis Scott this year?

The answer is probably not very far.

In his true freshman season, Scott became one of the most important players on the Clemson football roster because he consistently made big plays with his legs.

While the running game struggled for most of the year, Scott made big play after big play on short tosses that, while technically passes, were practically running plays. And Scott saved his best performance for the last game of the regular season, against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

While Mike Williams was more of a down-the-field threat, Scott was often the guy that Clemson used in screens to relieve some of the pressure on the running game. Because of that, Scott had fewer yards per reception that Williams but was probably a factor in more games.

And here is why Clemson football fans should be even more excited about Scott’s future. We didn’t see much of what he could do down the field thanks, in part, to Clemson’s quarterback play.

We already know what Scott can do with a bit of open field in front of him. He is practically impossible to bring down once he has some momentum. So how good is he going to be if Deshaun Watson stays healthy all year and gives the Tigers a QB who can air it out consistently?

The potential is practically limitless.
