Former Clemson All-American golfer Kyle Stanley gets another PGA tour win.

Stanley defeated Charles Howell III in a 1-round playoff to win the 2017 Quicken Loans National in Potomac, MD. He hit a 5-foot par putt to give him the win and a final score of seven under.

After finishing 44th in the same tournament last year and 57th in last week’s Travelers Championship, Stanley received a hefty check of $1.278 million from the $7.1 million tournament purse for his first place finish.

With the victory, he earned his second PGA tour win and moved up from 34th to 14th in the FedExCup standings.

Sunday’s win was his first since the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open and his first playoff win. He had a forgettable loss in the 2012 Farmers Insurance Open which was his only other playoff appearance. At the Farmers, Stanley had a seven shot lead in the final round and missed a four-foot par putt on his final hole that would have given him his first career win. Eventually, he was defeated by a charging Brandt Snedeker in a two hole playoff.

Miraculously, a week later, Stanley was able to redeem himself and get his first PGA tour win.

As he did after his first career win, Stanley was overcome with emotion in the post interview on pgatour.com, “It means a lot. I’ve had so much help from my coaches, my family, and my wife.” He continued as he wiped tears from his eyes, “It’s hard to put into words right now, I’m sorry.”

Now with a FedExCup ranking of 14th, Stanley will hope to make the playoffs for the fifth time. To qualify again, he has to be within the top 125 points leaders after the Aug 17-20 Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, NC.

Although happy with the win, Stanley realizes that there is more work ahead, “Well it’s confirmation that we’ve been working on the right things. I think if anything, it’ll probably make me a little bit hungrier to get to work.”
