The Clemson Tigers are working through the final days of spring practice leading up to the 2017 Orange and White game. Junior wideout, Deon Cain was mic’d up during one of Clemson’s most recent practices. At one point during the practice Dabo Swinney pulls Cain aside and tells him, “You’re the guy, you are thee guy.”

With the departure of Mike Williams, the Clemson Tigers offense is in need of a go-to guy at wide receiver. If there was any doubts as to who that person was going to be, they were all but erased.

Dabo Swinney clearly sees Deon Cain as the No. 1 wideout on the 2017 team.

With that title comes a heap of expectations. The Clemson Tigers have built a storied lineage of wide receiver play under Dabo Swinney, from Nuk Hopkins, to Sammy Watkins and most recently Mike Williams. Now it’s Deon Cain’s turn to leave his imprint on the Clemson football program.

At 6 foot, 210 pounds Deon Cain is built similarly to the aforementioned Hopkins and Watkins. All three are big enough to win in jump-ball situations, however, they are most dangerous when given the opportunity to run after the catch.

During his first two seasons at Clemson, Cain has ran primarily go routes and screens, both of which give him an opportunity to use his speed. Coming into his junior season, Cain will be asked to be a well rounded receiver, capable of excelling in all facets of the offense.

Early on in the 2017 season, the Clemson Tigers production through the air, or lack thereof, is in direct relation to Deon Cain’s play. If focused, Deon Cain is capable of dominating in the ACC.
