Strengths:

  • Length. Justin Mascoll has long arms which he uses to create separation from him and opposing offensive lineman.
  • Explosion. Justin Mascoll has a great first step which allows him to get off of the football fast. Opposing offensive lineman are immediately on their heels when the ball is snapped.
  • Motor. Despite being physically dominant at the high school level, Mascoll displays a tireless motor, he routinely runs the play down from behind and when he is rerouted he keeps his eyes on the ball carrier.
  • Frame. Though Mascoll is already 6’4, 237 pounds his frame looks like it could hold another 10 to 15 pounds of muscle.

Weakness:

Mascoll, much like many other high school defensive lineman, needs to develop an array of pass rushing moves, he also needs to work on using his hands better.

Outlook:

Clemson has yet again gone into the state of Georgia to pull out an impact player at the next level. Kirby Smart may be a great recruiter, however, as long as Dabo Swinney is around at Clemson, the Tigers will continue to have success recruiting in the state of Georgia.

Mascoll is a talented player, however, he will not start from day one at Clemson due to the talented that is already in place. That being said, he will provide immediate depth on the defensive line. It is customary for Clemson to use a rotation of defensive lineman and Mascoll has the physical maturity and talent to crack that rotation as a freshman.

Hopefully Clemson can pair Mascoll with fellow 2018 recruit, Xavier Thomas. The two of them would make for a dominant pair of edge rushers.
