The disrespect is officially tangible. Meanwhile, Clemson fans were arguing whether Chad Morris can fix the offense or whether Christopher Vizzina is the "guy," but Vegas dropped a bomb on the expectations for the 2026 season. FanDuel Sportsbook just dropped its Power 4 win total, a great way to see the potential losses coming in, and if you’re a Clemson Tiger, you might want to look the other way. The number? 7.5. That’s right. The program that once treated 10-win seasons like a noble birthright is now expected to hardly reach the .500 mark. After a 7-6 nightmare in 2025, the second-worst finish of the Dabo Swinney era, Vegas isn’t about to purchase the “bounce back” narrative any time soon.
The ACC Hierarchy: A New King in Coral Gables?
But only a view of the rest of the conference will tell you how deep the mighty have dropped. As Clemson is mired in the 7.5-win mud with Louisville, Pittsburgh and Virginia, everyone else is flying. Miami continues to ride on the peak of the ACC, with a record 10.5 wins in all. Even SMU (8.5) is winning the oddsmakers' support more than the Tigers. If your local fan can pick up how it feels when you know that the "Pony Express" and a Mario Cristobal-led squad are obvious favorites over a two-time National Champion, you know the crowd surrounding Death Valley has moved from "feared" to "questionable."
2026 ACC Win Totals (FanDuel):
Miami: 10.5
SMU: 8.5
Clemson: 7.5
Florida State: 6.5
South Carolina (Rival): 6.5
Trial by Bayou: The Lane Kiffin Test
In the most hostile environment imaginable, if Clemson wants to prove a 7.5 test is a joke, it’ll have to do just that. The Tigers begin 2026 in Baton Rouge on Sept. 5 against an LSU team in the Lane Kiffin era that is running down 9.5 win starters. Opening to Kiffin in Death Valley (the one that roars) is a harsh opening to redemption tour. And if the Tigers get smoked in the Bayou, that 7.5 “Over” must be like a mountain even Dabo can’t climb.
The “Development” Gamble: Will Dabo Have the Edge of the "Development" Gamble Not Be Able to Take the Down-the-Slide?
Swinney has been insistent that the culture is “built to last,” but the numbers mean the groundwork is apparently breaking down. The only season worse than 2025’s seven-win campaign was the 6-7 disaster in 2010. Ironically, that was the year prior to Swinney signing Chad Morris and launching the dynasty. By reopening Morris this spring, Dabo is betting that nostalgia can repair the “little things” that cost them games last year in the fourth quarter.
“We've just got to do a great job from a program standpoint—assessing, growing and retention the way we always have,” Swinney told ESPN. But in such a world of Miami buying rosters and LSU hiring the “Portal King,” could there be sufficient development to offset the 7.5-win projection?
Watch for it yourself: The Spring Game.
The challenge to prove Vegas wrong begins on March 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the annual Orange and White Spring Game. To see if the “Hungry Cat” is about to hunt, the season’s not a real one; Clemson will not be airing the full game live—it’ll instead do a recap special later in the spring. The 7.5 total is a slap in the face. The question is: Will Tigers turn the other cheek, or at last start swinging back?
