With the regular season rapidly approaching, the Clemson Tigers are now expected to be without defensive tackle Vic Burley for the foreseeable future. On Saturday morning, Burley was arrested for disorderly conduct. As a result, he has been suspended indefinitely by the team. Clemson was already in a bad spot along the defensive line. Now Burley's suspension makes things even worse.
Dabo Swinney released the following statement on Burley's arrest and his suspension from the team.
"Earlier today, I was made aware of defensive tackle Vic Burley's arrest by the Clemson University Police Department for disorderly conduct early Saturday morning," Swinney said in a statement. "I have made the decision to suspend Vic from our football team indefinitely. We are extremely disappointed by his actions and decisions."

This was about to be Burley's fourth season with the team. The Warner Robins, Ga native was slated to be one of the team's starters along the defensive line. This is a position group that Swinney had been hyper critical of with regards to nobody stepping up as a leader. While it could have been Burley this summer, that is clearly not the case. Clemson is in a tough spot heading into their Week 1 game.
Vic Burley arrest puts Tom Allen's defensive line behind the eight ball
Burley missed the bulk of fall camp with an undisclosed injury. While he did make it out there towards the end of fall camp, he is now not going to be part of Clemson's plans moving forward. The good news is Tom Allen has been in the building for another season to make the necessary adjustments for his defense. The bad news is Clemson's questionable depth has taken a big hit because of this arrest.
While junior college transfer Andy Burburija could come in and make an immediate impact, who is backing him up is ever more important than ever. Behind Burburija on the depth chart would be sophomores Champ Thompson and Makhi Williams Lee. As for the other defensive line spot, this will put even more pressure on sophomore Amare Adams and Oklahoma transfer Markus Strong.
Right now, Allen will definitely need a lift from his pass rush to counterbalance Burley's suspension. Whenever Clemson is at its best defensively, players are wreaking havoc along the defensive line. While they do have playmakers at linebacker, out on the edge, and in the defensive backfield, the defensive line now looks to be this team's biggest weakness. Swinney cannot be happy about this.
Ultimately, the timing of this could not have been any worse. Fall camp is over and Clemson plays its first game of the season on the road at LSU in exactly two weeks. FanDuel Sportsbook has Clemson as a sizable 10.5-point road underdog to Lane Kiffin's Bayou Bengals. Not to say Burley's absence will impact the betting line too much, but it could make things quite problemtic for Allen and his defense.
Only days after the worst practice of fall camp, Clemson just got the worst news it could about Burley.
