At long last, that 'generational' tag folks slapped on Trevor Lawrence is looking accurate.

For years, the so-called experts wondered if Trevor Lawrence could ever live up to the hype he built in Death Valley. Well, Tiger Nation knew all along. Now, even the national talking heads are catching up. On Wednesday, Fox Sports’ Nick Wright—one of Lawrence’s loudest champions—put it plain and simple: the wait is over. After a jaw-dropping 2025 where Trevor led the Jaguars to a 13-4 record and an AFC South crown, Wright says our Tiger legend is ready to bring home the NFL’s biggest individual prize in 2026 the best individual honor in 2026.

The Jump of a Lifetime

Lawrence’s 2025 wasn’t just a good year—it was a season for the Jaguars history books. With a new play-caller in Liam Coen, Trevor looked fearless, confident, and every bit the leader we watched carve up ACC defenses.

Just look at these numbers—this is a Tiger who’s mastered his craft and then some:

  • Passing Yards: 4,007 (topping the 4,000-yard mark for the third time in four years)
  • Passing Touchdowns: 29 (a career-high)
  • Rushing Impact: 359 yards and 9 rushing touchdowns (a career-high)
  • Total Scores: 38 (the 3rd best mark in the entire NFL)

That kind of fireworks didn’t go unnoticed. Lawrence finished 5th in the NFL MVP race and 4th for Comeback Player of the Year—a wild turnaround after a 2024 season where injuries tried to slow him down but couldn’t keep him down for long.

Why 2026 is the Year of Trevor

Appearing on First Things First, Nick Wright argued that the stage is perfectly set for Lawrence to become the first former Clemson quarterback to win the MVP.

"Trevor has played five years in this league. Two were objectively excellent," Wright said. "I also think this roster is the best it's been since he's been there, and he should have the most weapons he's had since he's been there... there might be an opening where the guys we normally see atop the MVP ballot [Mahomes, Jackson, Allen] are dealing with changes or injuries. Can Trevor win the MVP? Of course, he could."

Wright says it’s all coming together for Trevor—he’s finally healthy, finally settled, and finally surrounded by the kind of talent that lets him shine. After years of coaching chaos and shoulder setbacks, Lawrence is rolling into 2026 stronger than ever. With Travis Etienne Jr. (another Tiger legend) and rising star Brian Thomas Jr. by his side, the Prince of the Plains has everything he needs to turn that 38-touchdown magic into MVP gold.

For Tiger fans, seeing #16 dominate the professional ranks is nothing new—but seeing the rest of the world finally catch on is certainly "exciting."
