Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers are scorching hot on the recruiting trail, and there’s no slowing this train down. After a week where Tigertown landed commitments from safety Jarrell Chandler, running back Gary Walker, and wide receiver Jamarin Simmons, the Tigers have sent another shockwave through the SEC and made it clear who owns the Southeast.

On Wednesday afternoon, elite cornerback Nash Johnson III jumped on X to announce he’s scrapped his official visit to Tennessee. Instead, defensive wizard Mike Reed—Clemson’s associate head coach and cornerbacks guru—has locked Johnson in for a huge official visit to Clemson from June 12 to 14.

This is another tidal wave of momentum for the Tigers as they keep stacking up a secondary that’s going to make ACC quarterbacks lose sleep for years.

Elite Pedigree in the Secondary

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound lockdown artist out of Powder Springs, Georgia, has seen his stock skyrocket in recent months. Johnson was once committed to Alabama, but he reopened his recruitment in early April after realizing he jumped on the Crimson Tide too soon.

Coach Mike Reed wasted no time, bringing the Peach State standout in for an unofficial visit and handing him a Clemson offer right at the start of May. The bond was immediate, and Johnson has already said he plans to get back to the Upstate.

According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, the Creekside High School product is rated a three-star prospect, checking in as the No. 530 overall player in the nation, the No. 55 cornerback, and the No. 57 recruit in the talent-rich state of Georgia.

In a perfect twist for Clemson, Johnson is also a former high school teammate of our electric new four-star running back commit, Gary Walker. Walker missed their sophomore season together with a torn ACL, but the connection between these two Georgia stars could be the key to bringing Johnson home to Clemson.

The July 1 Countdown

Make no mistake, this is a heavyweight recruiting brawl that’s going to the final bell. Johnson has circled July 1 as his decision day, with his finalists down to Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, and the Volunteers—who just got left in the dust.

Right now, the regional media sees Auburn as Clemson’s biggest challenger. Auburn jumped in early, hosted Johnson for four unofficial visits this spring—including their Big Cat Weekend—and the experts at AuburnUndercover, On3, and 247Sports are all leaning their way.

But those predictions don’t factor in the closing speed of this Clemson staff when they get a top target on campus. Johnson’s official summer visits are set:

  • Auburn: May 29–31
  • Miami: June 5–7
  • Clemson: June 12–14
  • Ole Miss: June 19–21

Outside of Auburn, Clemson is the only team in this race with real, unstoppable momentum. With Mike Reed leading the charge and the Tiger family ready to welcome Johnson in mid-June, Clemson is set up to land another huge recruiting win just in time for his July 1 decision.
