The turning point came during the bye week — and it sounded simple: 'Let it rip.'

“Let it rip.”

That message from head coach Liam Coen unlocked the most complete stretch of football Trevor Lawrence has played in his NFL career, fueling the Jacksonville Jaguars’ push toward an AFC South title.

Since a 4–3 start and the team’s midseason break, Jacksonville has won eight of its last nine games. Lawrence has been at the center of it all, throwing 17 touchdowns with seven interceptions during that span while adding seven rushing scores — nearly all of his production on the ground this season.

A Midseason Reset That Worked

The Jaguars didn’t overhaul everything. They recalibrated.

“At the bye, we just had some honest conversations,” Coen said during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. “Just cut it loose. Let it rip. Whatever happens, play the next play. Go be aggressive, go be you.”

That mindset freed Lawrence to trust his instincts — and it shows. Jacksonville has ripped off a seven-game winning streak, and Lawrence is no longer pressing for perfection. He’s commanding games.

Career-Best Football

Advanced metrics back it up.

Lawrence currently ranks ninth among NFL quarterbacks in overall Pro Football Focus grade (83.2). He has posted two games above a 90 grade this season and has graded 81.1 or better in each of his last five outings — consistency that has elevated Jacksonville’s ceiling.

The Jaguars have also tailored the offense around Lawrence’s strengths, blending protection, run-pass balance, and designed movement to maximize efficiency.

“We wanted to make sure we were doing everything we could to put him in position to be successful,” Coen said. “He’s playing at a high level.”

Everything Still in Front of Them

Jacksonville can clinch the AFC South with a win Sunday over the Tennessee Titans. With additional help elsewhere, the Jaguars could even secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC — an unthinkable position after October.

Lawrence hasn’t been alone in the surge. Fellow Clemson alum Travis Etienne has been instrumental, scoring 11 touchdowns over the last nine games and surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the third time in four NFL seasons.

Etienne is set to enter free agency if Jacksonville doesn’t re-sign him, but his impact on this run is already undeniable.

Playing Free, Winning Big

What began as a simple challenge has become an identity.

Lawrence is aggressive, confident, and decisive — no longer forcing moments, just taking them when they appear. And with a division title within reach, the Jaguars are playing their best football at exactly the right time.
