Clemson is closing in on a pivotal moment in its 2026 recruiting cycle, with the Tigers eyeing one last marquee addition to cap off what’s already shaping up as another elite class.

Four-star safety Seth Williams, one of the most coveted defensive backs in the 2026 class, announced Sunday that he’ll reveal his college choice on July 31. After a rollercoaster recruitment filled with twists and turns, it’s down to Clemson and Georgia for the Lakeside (Ga.) standout. One of these two national powers is about to land a game-changer in the secondary.

Williams’ recruitment has been anything but ordinary. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound safety picked up a Clemson offer during an unofficial visit in March and wasted no time jumping on board. But less than a day later, he hit the brakes, decommitting to make sure he wasn’t rushing into a decision that could shape his future.

That move paid off in a big way. Williams’ stock skyrocketed this spring, with scholarship offers flooding in from coast to coast. By late May, he was sitting on more than 50 offers, with bluebloods from every major conference trying to get in the mix.

As the offers piled up, Williams trimmed his list and zeroed in on the heavyweights. He made official visits to Clemson and Georgia, canceling trips to Florida and Ohio State after both the Tigers and Bulldogs made strong impressions.

This isn’t Williams’ first time setting a commitment date, either. He initially circled July 3 for his announcement, only to push things back and give himself more time to weigh his options with the spotlight growing brighter.

Now, a new date is officially on the calendar. Clemson has made Williams one of its biggest priorities in the 2026 class, and the Tigers will find out on July 31 if they can secure the commitment of their top remaining recruiting target.
