Just as the college football season is set to kick off, millions of fans who subscribe to YouTube TV are in danger of missing one of the weekend's biggest games.
A high-stakes carriage dispute between Fox Sports and YouTube TV is threatening to pull channels like FOX, FS1, and Big Ten Network from the popular streaming service, potentially blacking out the massive Texas vs. Ohio State showdown on Saturday.
The deadline is fast approaching. According to a statement from YouTube TV, if a new agreement is not reached, the channels will be removed at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday—just over 48 hours before the first major game of the weekend, Auburn at Baylor on Friday night, is scheduled to air on FOX.
ACC-SEC Showdown Safe From Dispute
While the Big Ten vs. SEC clash in Columbus is in jeopardy, another top-10 showdown is safe from this particular dispute.
The highly anticipated matchup between No. 4 Clemson and No. 9 LSU is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday and will be broadcast on ABC. Because ABC is owned by Disney and is not part of the Fox Sports family of networks, the game will be available to all YouTube TV subscribers regardless of the outcome of the negotiations.
The potential blackout extends beyond college football. The "NFL on Fox" slate, which begins September 7, would also be unavailable to YouTube TV subscribers, impacting millions of fans as the pro season gets underway.
With the clock ticking toward the Wednesday deadline, fans are once again caught in the middle of a corporate showdown that could leave them without access to some of the biggest games of the year.
