What a weird day it's been for Tiger fans. A week ago, Ian Schieffelin entered his name into the transfer portal and on Wednesday, it was rumored that he would be joining the Clemson football team as a tight end.
Those rumors were confirmed by reports that claimed Schieffelin is "planning" on joining Dabo Swinney and the football team this fall.
To say this was a shocking development would be an understatement. The Clemson basketball fan favorite and career 1,000-point scorer decided to hang up the Nikes to throw on some shoulder pads, cleats, and a helmet and join the football team that's projected to compete for a national title.
Many times throughout Schieffelin's basketball career, Swinney has said that he would make a great football player and expressed his desire to get him to join his team. Schieffelin himself said that he would be a solid tight end and that he has great hands.
Well, that once-presumed pipe dream is now coming to fruition.
Reports have indicated that the rumors are true and that Schieffelin is going to join the football team this fall in a thinned out tight end room that just lost Jake Briningstool. There are some solid young players there, but really no one proven. Adding a 6-foot-8, 240-pound athletic big-bodied target like Schieffelin is only going to help with depth.
As you could imagine, the Schieffelin news got social media stirring like crazy and fans exploded with opinions.
Here are some of the best social media reactions to the Schieffelin news.

My only question about Ian Schieffelin:

Who keeps giving Dabo these side quests to complete?
Ian Schieffelin is gonna be a mean TE. I just hope he doesn’t have bricks for hands. Man will it be fun to cheese a 6’8 TE in EA CFB 26.

Schieffelin is clearly a fan favorite still and will continue to be one on a different team next season as long as he can find that extra year of eligibility to play football.
All signs are pointing to this being close to a done deal. Who would've thought?
