Clemson basketball has started the season with an impressive 6-1 record with a Quad-1 win over Georgia and a Quad-2 win over WVU. The impressive start to the season is gaining national media interest in the team and the performance of head coach Brad Brownell.
Popular ESPN College Basketball Analyst Seth Greenberg shared his high praise for Brownell during an ACC Network broadcast on Tuesday. Greenberg discussed how Brownell has built both a culture and a current team with “Clemson guys” and how they win “the Clemson way”.
“One of the most under-appreciated coaches in all of college basketball,” Greenberg said about Brownell.

Being described as one of the most under-appreciated coaches in all of basketball, Brownell earned Greenberg’s praise in how he replaced everyone from the 2024-2025 roster except starting point guard Dillon Hunter, sophomore Ace Buckner, and sophomore Dallas Thomas. RJ Godfrey also returned to Clemson after spending one season at Georgia (2024-25 season).
For those who might not know what “Clemson guys” are, Greenberg described what makes someone a “Clemson guy”.
“Well, what's a Clemson guy? Fiercely competitive, great attitude, tremendous work ethic, all about one thing and one thing only, champion in your all, showing people what you can do, not what you can't do, and be about winning. And that's exactly what they're all about. They're about winning. Everyone embraces their champion roles. They play really, really hard. They impose their identity on the game, and they don't make mistakes. They stay within themselves,” Greenberg commented.
Receiving those high remarks from someone as respected in college basketball as Greenberg, Brownell and his players should realize the impact they are leaving on Greenberg and others’ opinions about them and the Clemson program.
Greenberg ended his reflection on the current Clemson program discussing how impressive he thought Brownell’s success at a football-centric school has been.
“And what he's been able to do, the consistency that he's been able to do at a football-centric school. Not that you can't be great in everything, because he's been terrific. But in a football-centric school, that consistency that he's had is absolutely tremendous,” Greenberg said.
Starting the season 6-1, Clemson has had some early tests early on. Erasing two double-digit deficits to defeat WVU and Georgia, Clemson has earned the title “the Cardiac Cats”. Clemson returns to the floor on Friday, taking on Alabama A&M at home. For those wanting to watch some Clemson basketball on Black Friday, the Tigers can be found on ACCNX.
