Another tough blow for Clemson's cornerback recruiting this spring, and you can feel the frustration building in Tiger Town. Four-star Bryce Williams, a name every Tiger fan had circled for that big May 29-31 visit, has pulled the plug on his trip to The Valley. Instead, he's heading out to see Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners. That one stings.
This one is a gut punch for the Orange and White faithful. Williams, the Fort Lauderdale standout ranked No. 315 nationally, has been at the top of Coach Mike Reed’s wish list ever since he reopened his recruitment after decommitting from Florida State last December. That door swung open when the Noles let go of Patrick Surtain Sr., but despite Clemson’s best efforts, a mess of travel headaches and scheduling snags kept Williams and the Tigers from connecting when it mattered most.

A HISTORY OF HICCUPS
Landing Williams has felt like chasing a ghost. First, he was supposed to be in town for the Elite Retreat in early March, but that got pushed back. Then a mid-April visit fell through thanks to more travel drama. By the time Williams finally set foot in Clemson at the end of April and picked up that official offer, Nebraska and Oklahoma had already made their moves.
Nebraska’s Addison Williams has been working the phones with Bryce since January, and right now the Huskers are out in front. But don’t sleep on Oklahoma—Lamar Morgan is coming hard, using connections he built back when he was at Michigan to get in the mix.
THE REMAINING BOARD: EYES ON MAY 29
Losing out on a talent like Williams stings, no doubt, but the mission in The Valley never changes. As Dabo loves to say, difference makers are what get you back to the playoffs. Now it’s all eyes on the next wave of “War Daddies” in the secondary, with the May 29-31 visit weekend looming large.
Jayden Aparicio-Bailey, who just put Clemson in his top five, and four-star Bryant Robinson are both still set to make it to campus. These visits are huge for Coach Reed and the Tigers—a real shot to steady a cornerback room that’s had more than its share of close calls this cycle.
SCOUTING THE NEW FRONTIER
Clemson isn’t standing still, either. The staff has cast a wider net, sending out offers to three-star prospects Brandon 'Slim' Leavell and Aidyn Wiggins. Right now, Leavell is the only one with an official visit on the books.
Keep an eye on Nash Johnson III, the former Alabama commit who just put Clemson in his top six. He’s set to announce on July 1, and landing a player with his pedigree would be a statement to all the doubters out there.
Dabo always reminds us, we have enough—we just have to be good with what we’ve got. But if Clemson wants to stay on top of the ACC, bringing in these secondary studs is a must. Orange and White pride is on the line, and this visit season will show if the Tigers are ready to take back that DBU crown.
