Erik Bakich has made a splash in the transfer portal this offseason for Clemson baseball.
The Tigers' head coach made some big statements following the Clemson Regional final loss to Kentucky including one about getting back to Omaha that caught fans' attention. He said that Clemson is going to get back to Omaha and he's going to make sure it happens.
Well, he knew that the transfer portal would help with that.
Bakich has picked up some major commitments from a number of top transfers who also happen to be MLB Draft prospects and arguably the No. 1 incoming transfer is outfielder Ryan Wideman, an All-American from Western Kentucky. He is expected to become the team's top star, replacing Cam Cannarella who is also going through the draft process.
Wideman is widely considered one of the best players in the country and he's likely to be selected in the first few rounds of the 2025 MLB Draft.
One baseball insider, according to TigerNet, believes that it would be "a miracle" if he made it to campus. Baseball America's Peter Flaherty says that he'd be "floored" it Wideman made it to campus.
Per TigerNet, Flaherty also said that he sees Wideman as a top 3-5 round guy which would make him a "slam dunk" to sign after getting drafted.
For a guy who hit .398 with 10 home runs and 68 RBIs and played an impressive defensive outfield, it's not a shock to see him being projected to sign with a MLB team. He will have a tough decision to make when his name is called in the MLB Draft.
Hopefully it's in Clemson's favor.
