Clemson Tigers News: Several Tigers available on Day 3 of the NFL Draft
By John Chancey
After Ruke Orhorhoro was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons early on Day 2, we didn’t hear any more Tigers drafted on Friday evening.
While not entirely unexpected, it was thought that Jeremiah Trotter, Jr. stood a decent shot of hearing his name called. When the running backs started coming off the board in the middle of the 2nd round, I began to wonder if Will Shipley could go higher than expected.
Alas, neither happened so both Trotter and Shipley, along with Xavier Thomas and Tyler Davis, will stand by to find out their NFL destination on Saturday. Sheridan Jones and Will Putnam have an outside chance of being drafted late.
If Jones and Putnam are not drafted, they stand a good chance of finding a free-agent deal with someone in the league, along with Jalyn Phillips and Justin Mascoll.
Other news and notes from around Clemson Athletics
Clemson Baseball produced another crazy come-from-behind victory to defeat the Louisville Cardinals 12-11. The Tigers had a dreadful fourth inning, allowing Louisville to plate ten runs and take an 11-4 lead.
The Tigers chipped away slowly at the lead until Jimmy Obertop batted in the tying run in the 9th inning. Cam Cannarella then singled in the go-ahead run and the Tigers held in the bottom of the 9th.
Jon Blau called this one correctly:
Clemson Softball also got a comeback win in Louisville last night 6-5. Maddie Moore, Alex Brown, and Julia Knowler led the scoring charge for the Tigers while Regan Spencer and Millie Thompson got the job done at the plate.
I haven’t scoured the data, but it seems like Thompson hadn’t gotten much run support this season when she was on the mound, so I’m sure it felt good for her to see the comeback while she was pitching.
Both squads play their respective Game 2 against the Cardinals today at 1:00 PM.
