Dabo Swinney named to the Bobby Dodd Award watchlist for 2024
Clemson Football head coach Dabo Swinney has been named to the preseason watchlist for the Bobby Dodd Award. The award is given to the FBS head coach whose team excels on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
The award is named after Bobby Dodd, who coached at Georgia Tech in both football and baseball from 1931 to 1966. He was the head coach of Yellow Jacket football from 1945 to 1966 and baseball from 1932 to 1939. He was a football assistant while he coached baseball.
Swinney won the award in 2011. Last year’s winner was Mike Norvell from Florida State, who is also on this year’s watchlist.
Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, Steve Sarkisian, and Lane Kiffin are among the other names on the watchlist. The winner will be announced the week of the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia.

Many have speculated that the Power 2, the SEC and Big Ten, will dominate the first season of the 12-team playoff. A lot of projections expect the ACC, Big 12, and Group of Five to have one team represented each.
Bud Elliott believes the ACC will grab two spots.
Even if this comes to pass, the Power 2 would still dominate with a combined eight teams between them. It is simply refreshing to see someone predict another conference will be able to grab an at-large bid.
