Clemson Men's Basketball looks to avenge earlier loss to Georgia Tech
By John Chancey
Clemson Men’s Basketball stands at 17-8 overall and 7-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They have six games remaining before the beginning of the ACC Tournament in Washington, DC.
While they do play two teams in Pittsburgh and Wake Forest that have NCAA Tournament aspirations, the most difficult part of their conference schedule is behind them. That means now would be a great time to start a winning streak.
The Tigers will attempt to do that tonight while visiting the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The game will start at 7:00 PM in McCamish Pavilion. It will be televised on the ACC Network.
Clemson lost to Tech in Littlejohn Coliseum on January 16th following two overtime periods, so the Tigers absolutely should not underestimate the Yellow Jackets. Miles Kelly leads Georgia Tech in scoring with 14.7 points per game. Baye Ndongo brings down 8 rebounds per contest, while Naithon George dishes 4.8 assists per game.
That said, Georgia Tech is 11-15 overall and 4-11 in the ACC. They are ranked 141st in the NET rankings. If Clemson is a serious player in the upcoming postseason, they need to play their best basketball against a team like Tech and not play down to the level of competition.
Clemson could be 10-4 right now and squarely in the Top 4 of the ACC standings if they had handled business at home against Tech, Virginia, and NC State. The Tigers lost by one point on their home court to both the Cavaliers and the Wolfpack.
There is reason for optimism. The Tigers dropped a game at Littlejohn to North Carolina but avenged that loss in Chapel Hill a few weeks later. The odds favor Clemson to do the same with Georgia Tech tonight.
ESPN Analytics’ Matchup Predictor says Clemson has an 80.4% chance of victory tonight.
