This is the last weekend of July. For Clemson Football, it means one thing: the All-In Cookout.
With the tendency for prospects to announce earlier in the cycle than they used to, the importance of the Cookout for uncommitted targets has declined with respect to volume, but not, perhaps, in terms of importance.
The Tigers were looking to fill out a few key spots, and they have been successful in at least one case.
Linebacker prospect Logan Anderson has verbally committed to the Clemson Tigers.
Anderson plays for Fyffe High School in Alabama. He is 6’-2” and 218 pounds. He is rated as a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite and ranked 407th nationally regardless of position. Anderson also plays baseball.
Anderson was also considering Auburn, Georgia, and Ole Miss. Anderson had sixteen scholarship offers from FBS teams. He had one Crystal Ball projection on 247Sports to select Clemson.
Anderson is a two-way player in high school, playing mostly running back earlier in his career. As you can see from his Hudl highlights, he has put more emphasis on playing defense.
Anderson strikes me as a good fit as a strong-side linebacker, especially considering the Tigers want players who can cover to play that position. Anderson has several highlights where he dropped into the defensive backfield in more of a safety-type role and had to engage in pass coverage.
Anderson is roughly the same size as Jamal Anderson (no relation), who is expected to be more of a contributor in Clemson’s linebacker rotation at the SAM linebacker position.
Anderson becomes the sixteenth verbal commitment for Clemson Football in the Class of 2025. He is the first linebacker commitment of the cycle. He is also the first 2025 commitment from the state of Alabama, where the Tigers have been successful in recruiting the last few years.
