Clemson Football expected to battle with Florida State and Miami for most wins in the ACC
By John Chancey
Many believe Clemson Football is approaching a pivot point in the 2024 season. Either the Tigers will exceed expectations and analysts will have to (begrudgingly) admit that head coach Dabo Swinney can move the program forward with his current stances on recruiting, or they will fall short again and be forced to re-evaluate their current recruiting model that doesn’t use NIL for acquisition, only retention.
As for myself, I simply want to see a step forward – an improvement over the results of 2023. If FanDuel is correct, there is a decent chance we could see that.
Fan Duel presently has Clemson’s over/under regular season win total at 9.5 games. Their odds favor Clemson coming in below that total more than they favor exceeding 9.5 wins. Even if the Tigers only get to 9-3 in the regular season, this would still be a one-game improvement over their 2023 regular season win total of 8 games. The Tigers would still have a chance to reach double-digit wins with a victory in a postseason bowl game.
Nine regular season wins also might be enough to get the Tigers into the ACC Championship Game, though that would depend on how the other competitive programs of the conference fare.
FanDuel also has Florida State and Miami set at 9.5 regular season games for this season. Like Clemson, their odds favor the under more so than the over.
Fan Duel then has Louisville, NC State, and Virginia Tech set at 8.5 wins. They favor the Wolfpack to exceed 8.5 wins and have the Cardinals at even odds.
Clemson visits Tallahassee and Blacksburg this season but hosts NC State and Louisville. They do not play Miami in the regular season.
Louisville hosts the Canes this season but doesn’t face the other three contenders, once again giving them a relatively easy schedule in the ACC. Miami hosts the Hokies and the Seminoles but avoids the Wolfpack. State only plays Clemson, giving them an easy path as well.
