5 Things I am watching in the Clemson Football Spring Game
By John Chancey
We are ten days away from the 2024 Orange vs White Spring Game at Death Valley on April 6th. Over the next week, we can expect to learn how the roster will be split between each team and which coaches will be in charge of each team.
I am looking forward to seeing how the two squads will line up, but there are a few things I know I will be watching closely regardless of the rosters.
Here are five things I will be watching in the Spring Game.
The Starting Quarterbacks
This might seem like a default subject, but it is for good reason. Plenty of good teams have struggled because their quarterbacks weren’t up to the task.
I expect that Cade Klubnik will helm one team with redshirt Colby Shaw as the backup, while Chris Vizzina will lead the other squad with Trent Pearman as the backup.
Pearman and Shaw will get playing time, but I expect most of the snaps to be taken by the starters because they have the most to prove.
Klubnik is a guy that has the tools required to be very good but he hasn’t proven that he has the skill to use them. More precisely, he hasn’t proven that he has the skill to use them consistently. I don’t know if he can offset that concern in a spring game, but I do know that a shaky performance will result in a lot of heartburn for Clemson fans for the next five months.
Vizzina is the one I want to see most. He looked like a freshman who had a lot to learn last spring. Early feedback from the staff is that he looks good in practices so far.
