Clemson is on a hot streak, not only outright winning the last two ACC games but also consecutively covering a pair of double-digit spreads.
The Tigers (3-3 overall, 2-2 ACC) will get a chance to make it three in a row when the SMU Mustangs visit Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Clemson begins its second half of the season as a 10-point favorite at DraftKings. The line opened up higher at some sportsbooks, but FanDuel had the Tigers -9.5 by Sunday afternoon.
According to DraftKings, the early money was split evenly between Clemson and SMU, but the Tigers were getting 57% of the bets. The line likely isn’t affected by Clemson QB Cade Klubnik’s status. He left the BC game in the second half “banged up” and didn’t return, but he said after the game that he’ll be good to go against SMU.
ATS outlook and total
Clemson failed to cover the spread in its first four games before rebounding against North Carolina and Boston College as two-touchdown favorites against a pair of conference foes who are currently 3-8 overall and 0-5 in ACC play.
SMU (4-2, 2-0) will be a tougher out, but the Mustangs are 1-5 against the spread this season. This is just the second time this season they’ve been an underdog. TCU was favored by nearly a touchdown and covered with a 35-24 victory over SMU in Week 4.
The total points for the game are 44.5 at FanDuel. The over in SMU games is 1-5, while four of Clemson’s six games have gone under.
