Opening odds: Clemson begins game week vs. LSU as 4-point favorite

No. 4 Clemson heads into the first game week of 2025 favored at home against No. 9 LSU. 

In a betting market that opened several months ago, Clemson started as a 2.5-point favorite. The ACC Tigers have continued to take enough money to increase the spread. Most U.S. sportsbooks have Clemson at -4. 

The spread in one of the most intriguing games of Week 1 has reached as high as 4.5 at FanDuel, but the sportsbook had it at 3.5 as of Sunday afternoon. DraftKings, which has Clemson -4, has actually seen LSU receive most of the money, with the SEC Tigers coming in a 56% of the handle, which is the amount of money wagered in a particular betting market. However, the amount of bets taken on each side was dead even on Sunday.  

The line has been out all summer, and the professional bettors, as well as some recreational bettors looking ot get an early start, have taken plenty of shots at this spread. However, public bettors will begin picking at this game throughout the week, which could certainly result in more significant line movement either way by the 7:30 p.m. game time on Saturday. 

Clemson has lost three of its last five season openers, including the last two against Georgia and Duke. The ACC Tigers are also 1-4 against the spread during that span. LSU is 0-3 in season openers under head coach Brian Kelly, including two losses to ACC squad Florida State.

In other Clemson-LSU betting markets, the point total is 57.5 at DraftKings, which has seen the over getting pounded. Nearly 80% of the money is on a high-scoring game. FanDuel set Clemson QB Cade Klubnik’s passing total at 260.5, while LSU QB Garrett Nussmier’s is 283.5. Klubnik also has the shortest odds to score a touchdown in Saturday’s showdown at -125.  

Clemson has been a popular team, seeing a ton of action in the ACC winner market as well as the national championship. Clemson’s odds of winning it all have dropped from an opening +2000 to +900 at BetMGM, and Dabo Swinney’s squad is one of the top three liabilities in the sportsbook’s title market.
