The former Clemson Tigers safety announced Sunday that he has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs, keeping the Peach State native close to home after entering the transfer portal.

Barnes arrived at Clemson with immediate impact, earning Freshman All-American honors in 2023 and becoming the first player of the Dabo Swinney era to post multiple interceptions and multiple forced fumbles in a single freshman season.

Production Across Three Seasons

Barnes followed that breakout year with a strong sophomore campaign, recording four interceptions and three pass breakups. His final season in orange was quieter statistically, as he finished with two pass breakups and no interceptions across 10 games.

Over three seasons at Clemson, Barnes totaled 147 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 16 pass breakups, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles, a sack and a fumble recovery returned 42 yards for a touchdown. He logged 1,838 defensive snaps in 37 games, making 30 starts from 2023–25.

Portal Turnaround

Barnes opted out of the Pinstripe Bowl and was scheduled to visit Ole Miss before announcing his commitment to Georgia, signaling a quick resolution to his transfer process.

For Georgia, Barnes adds an experienced defensive back with proven ball production and SEC familiarity. For Clemson, his departure continues an offseason of significant turnover in the secondary as the Tigers reshape the back end through the portal.
