This one stings, Tiger fans. Clemson just lost out on one of its biggest 2027 backfield targets, and you can bet the entire Clemson Family is feeling it.
Andrew Beard, the electric four-star running back out of Prince Avenue Christian, made it official Friday afternoon: he’s heading to Florida. Beard picked the Gators over Clemson, Tennessee, and Georgia, handing Florida its third straight win over the Tigers on the recruiting trail. That’s a tough pill to swallow.
The Sumrall Factor
CJ Spiller did everything in his power, and Beard had built a real bond with Chad Morris, but in the end, the new buzz around the Swamp with Jon Sumrall at the helm was just too much to overcome.
Commitment came down to,”the fire and the passion I feel in Coach Summeral, and the belief that Coach Faulkner and Coach Foster have in me,” Beard said.
Locking It Down Early
Beard didn’t waste any time locking things down, pulling the plug on his official visit to Clemson set for May 29. With the recruiting world moving at warp speed, he made his move early to make sure he had his spot.
At 5-foot-10 and 198 pounds, Beard was the kind of playmaker who could have lit up Death Valley for years to come. The guy was a human highlight reel last fall, piling up almost 1,300 yards on the ground and another 450 through the air. That’s the spark Clemson wanted to kickstart the 2027 class, and now it’s a big hole to fill.
All Eyes on Gary Walker
Missing on Beard means all eyes now turn to Gary Walker, the four-star from Creekside, Georgia. With Beard out of the picture, Walker is the last uncommitted running back with a Clemson offer—and the pressure just got cranked up.
The good news? The recruiting experts still have their Crystal Balls pointed toward Clemson for Walker, and he’s locked in for the Tigers’ huge official visit weekend at the end of May. After dropping three straight battles to the Gators, landing Walker isn’t just a wish—it’s a must.
Recruiting is never easy, and today the Gators get to celebrate. But if there’s one thing we know, it’s that CJ Spiller doesn’t back down. Time to reload, refocus, and keep the Spiller Factory humming in Tiger Town.
